We here at Olivia Management love Americana music, and we love music legends. In Baz Luhrmann’s new movie Elvis we got to see those two worlds collide.

Americana artist Yola played the part of Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the film, and we are thrilled to see her on screen. Yola earned four Grammy nominations for her debut solo album Walk Through Fire. She is an extremely talented singer and songwriter and a powerhouse for the Americana genre. In the movie, she plays Sister Rosetta Tharpe who is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist that first gained popularity in the 1930s.

Elvis shows us the influence that artists like Tharpe had on rock legend Elvis Presley. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, and is still gaining recognition for her talent and influence in the music industry. Yola’s role was more than just a part to play. It was a chance for her to showcase her talents while bringing awareness to the talent and influence of black female artists that has been looked over for years. Go Yola!
