Welcoming New Interns to the Team!

It’s summertime! And thank goodness because summer means new interns! It’s an honor and a privilege for us to introduce to you our brand new interns. Please welcome Jessie Mellott, Dawson O’Brien, and Cali Weddle to the team! Though we haven’t known them long, it’s obvious they’re full of passion, drive, and kindness. You can learn a little bit about them with us by reading on below!

Jessie Mellott

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

Aside from music, I love soccer, drama tv shows/movies, and fantasy novels. I love watching women's soccer and British premier league. Some drama shows I like watching are Supergirl, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and Gossip Girl, but I also loved the comedy show The Good Place. Some of my favorite book series are The Darkest Minds and The Taking.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Mangos! I know it's not a meal, but I love mangos.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I have not quite decided yet between management or publishing. I think both sound very interesting and am looking to figure out which I would prefer to pursue.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

My taste is music has been changing a little since I started college. I used to exclusively listen to pop, but I currently love listening to folk, acoustic, and alternative music. One of my current favorite artists is Gordi and I have loved Jason Mraz for many years. In my hometown, Hershey, PA, I saw my first concert Matchbox 20 and the Goo Goo Dolls, as well as Train and Maroon 5. I also enjoyed seeing For King and Country here in Nashville my freshman year, but haven't been able to see too much down here because COVID hit in the middle of my freshman year. I am excited to start seeing live music again as more continues to open up. I love that music can bring people together through artists and songwriters experiences and carry you through tough times by connecting to songs on a deeper level. Music is taken in through your ears, but I love the way music can make you feel in your heart.

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

I'm not sure exactly what my favorite thing is, but the difference in weather from my hometown in Pennsylvania is nice. I also find that people tend to be slightly nicer here out on the streets.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

I chose to intern here because of what I took away from the spring internship fair at Belmont. I knew I was looking to intern at a management company, but really liked the conversation I had with Erin and Maggie about the work environment and being able to learn as much as I can with this opportunity.

What would you like to get out of this internship?

I am hoping to use this experience to be able to apply what I am learning in my classes at Belmont and learn more at Olivia Management through hands-on experience. My goal is to do and learn as much as I am able to during my time here.

Dawson O’Brien

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

Outside of being a normal Belmont student, I am a lacrosse coach for a local middle school. Also, comedy has always been a passion of mine, so you might catch me at an open mic!

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I have two dreams: I really want to become a business manager for entertainers, or become a professional comedian.

I love the vibe here. "Music City" is the perfect name for Nashville because it is not simply country music anymore like it used to be. It is all kinds of musical genres here! I also love how the city loves their professional sports teams, as well as have one of the biggest comedy clubs in the nation.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

I have heard great things about Olivia Management, and I felt very at-home and at-ease when I had conversations with the team members.

What would you like to get out of this internship?

I want to learn more about the duties and activities that go along with management in the entertainment industry, as well as make long-lasting friendships and business relationships.

Cali Weddle

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

My biggest passion is songwriting and making music. I play guitar and piano and love to sing! I also played college basketball and love anything active! But I’m at my happiest when I’m on a boat somewhere in the middle of the lake :)

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Hot Krispy Kreme donuts!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be some sort of mix of a manager / creative collaborator / songwriter where I get to work with artists on every aspect of their craft.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

Some of my favorite artists are Old Dominion, Julia Michaels, Tyler Childers, and Jon Pardi, but NOTHING compares to a live Taylor Swift show! My all time favorite!!

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

I love being in a city full of so many driven, creative people who are working hard to get where they want to be.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

I loved the idea of learning the industry from smart, powerful women and being in a space where I was encouraged to ask questions and grow as an individual.

What would you like to get out of this internship?

I hope to get a better understanding of the behind the scenes of the music industry, as well as make connections to help me pursue my future career as an artist manager or songwriter.

Olivia Management was one of the best internships I have ever had. The amount of knowledge that I have learn in my two semesters of interning at Olivia Management is incredible. My journey at Olivia Management started in the Fall of 2020, and they instantly became like family. Erin puts so much trust in her interns and really motivates us all to do our best. I couldn’t imagine a better place to intern!

My favorite part about this company was starting Mondays with affirmations from the team. You don’t realize how much that helps the morale, it gives us encouragement to keeping going and to keep doing our best. I learned so much interning at Olivia Management from how to submit songs to PROs and Sound Exchange to learning more about making graphics for our artists shows and social medias as well as everything in between! Interning at Olivia Management has definitely confirmed that artist management is what I want to do.

New year, new semester. We all know what this means: great new additions to our team! As we begin to put 2020 behind us, we’re so excited for what lies ahead with these new interns we’re bringing on board. We’re over the moon to introduce you to Madison Moll and Kylie Rose. Keep reading to hear a little bit about why we just had to have them join us this semester.

Madison Moll

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

I sing and songwrite on my own time, I love to collect crystals and color in coloring books. I also have been making candles recently out of my old candles, and that's been fun. I love to write in general, I've tried to start a blog multiple times to no avail, but I'm working on it! I love exploring Nashville, going to coffee shops and thrift stores. When it's nice out I love to go on walks, hammock, and swim!

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Ooooooh, honestly, probably pasta. There are so many ways to prepare it and I basically already eat it everyday! I also love sushi.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a manager, but most of all a creative in the music industry. Whether that be management or marketing or a creative director of a publishing company or label, I want to be able to be creative every day that I work.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

Some of my favorite musicians of all-time include Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, and Sara Barielles, buuuuut, recently I've been listening to a lot (and LOVING) Clairo, Maude Letour, Hippo Campus, Josie Dunne, Phoebe Bridgers, Ben Rector, Lennon Stella, and Still Woozy. One of my favorite shows that I went to was a band called "Joan" in the Highwatt, also in the Highwatt I went to a "Vacation Manor" show that was really cool! I love listening to Alternative, pop, some christian, folk-pop, and some country music!

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

The live music, pre-Covid and hopefully sometime in the near future! Nothing is better than hearing music live in Music City surrounded by so many creative people, getting to meet those people, and make connections! I also love Love Circle because I can see the whole city.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

I first heard of Olivia Management at a Music Row Promotion Event with Smooth Hound Smith and it was one of my favorite events. I love OM’s vibe and mission and I think they are very ambitious and a great place to learn. I have since only heard the best things from previous interns and other peers about OM, which drew me in. I'm very passionate about learning more about the industry, especially artist management, so I felt that this was the best and most perfect opportunity for me and my development as a professional.

What would you like to get out of this internship?

I want to connect with my co-interns, with the team, and learn more about artist management! I'm hoping to learn more about myself and what I truly want in the industry as well as gain some new skills!

Kylie Rose

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

Above all else, I honestly just love being around other people. Anything where I get to learn about other's stories and what makes them come alive! More specifically though, you can find me watching Sing Street, at the GoodWill Outlet, grabbing some matcha, making a slightly above average apple pie, attempting to learn photography, or memorizing each and every Just Dance routine.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Vegan chicken nuggets, it's honestly questionable how much my diet consists of them.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I would hopefully like to be managing world tours, or working at a label in Europe. My biggest passions are travel and music, but wherever I end up, I hope to be constantly evolving and helping inspire others.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

Favorite Artists: Jon Bellion, Novo Amor, Jack Garratt, Joy Oladokun, Passenger, Sleeping at Last, Declan McKenna, Anderson Paak, The Wrecks, Jet Black Alley Cat, and Mr. Ed Sheeran himself. Favorite Genres: Acoustic-Folk and Indie-Rock Favorite Shows: The "Live. Life. Love." suicide prevention benefit concert last November will always be one of my favorites. Not only was the message so beautifully empathetic, but the lineup was incredible. That night consisted of Jon Bellion, Lizzo, Lovelytheband, Chelsea Cutler, Louis Tomlinson, along with a few other Nashville local acts. I remember screaming the lyrics "Tell me what you hate about me", from Jon Bellion's "Good Things Fall Apart", to some random strangers. Those random strangers are now some of my closest friends. That was the last time I really got to experience that live-music adrenaline before COVID-19 hit, and I miss it so dearly.

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

Coming from Louisville, Kentucky, I love how Nashville still has that southern charm whilst maintaining a bigger city feel. I also love the inspiration everywhere you turn, and how people aren't afraid to go after their passions.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

Reading about Erin's story was my biggest pull to interview for Olivia Management. Female empowerment within the music industry is lacking big time, so it was incredible to find a company with women at its core. OM first appeared to me as a confident, genuine, and values-based business that I could not wait to get to learn under.

What would you like to get out of this internship?

I want to experience the artist management industry's most intricate functions, especially under the lens of a global pandemic. I hope to understand how to adapt when change comes around, and how to maximize growth among artists.

A Day in the Life of an Intern

The start of this internship was a little bit different than I had expected because of COVID-19 and everything that came with it. You would think that working remotely for the first few weeks of an internship would make for a confusing and difficult landscape to navigate, but it was honestly quite the opposite. Getting started with this internship was about as smooth as a new intern could hope for, and it almost felt like we were all working in the same office despite being physically apart. Part of what made this such a smooth experience, besides how awesome, patient, and communicative our team is, are the systems that we use. I’m not sure if it would have been possible to get things done in an efficient manner if it weren’t for the instant communication that Slack offered us. Slack is basically a virtual office space where we can all come together online and talk to each other in real time as if we were communicating in person. During the first few weeks as an intern, I would start the day by signing on to Slack to let everyone know that I was online, to which I was greeted by everyone online, and it genuinely felt like I was physically there, ready to work. 

Fast forward to the present day, we have transitioned to working at our new office in East Nashville. It is a shared office space from a company called Three One Three, and it has been nothing but a great experience to come in every day to a bright, cheerful space where we can safely make things happen and work together in person. 

Now that I’ve thought a little bit about how this internship has been productive and a great learning experience despite the strange times, let's get down to the nitty gritty of what a day in the life of an Intern at an artist management firm like Olivia Management looks like! 

When I arrive at the office, I am greeted by the smiling faces of our awesome team, and then I get on my computer, log into all of our systems, and get to work! The first order of business is logging into Asana, which is an organized system for tasks that need to get done. I check to see if there is anything pressing that has been assigned to me. This would be tagged as high priority, and typically needs to get done ASAP. These tasks typically involve anything from adding artists’ shows into Artist Growth, a system that allows us to add in information about specific shows, so our artists can have an organized place where they can see all of the details for the show. Although most of the live, in-person shows have been canceled for the foreseeable future, our artists’ have been staying busy doing online shows, and finding other creative ways to interact with their fans. This has been keeping us busy, too! In order to maximize the outreach and exposure of these shows, I often find myself adding Eventbrite pages for artists’, which gives fans details about the livestreams, and a link to buy the tickets. Ruthie Collins recently added four Live Stream From the Airstream dates, so adding these shows to Eventbrite, and editing the show posters in Canva are something that I find myself doing often in my day, not just for Ruthie, but for all of our busy artists!

One of the things that I love the most about this internship is that I never know what I’m going to be doing next. It seems like everyday I am going to be introduced to a new system or process that helps our artists grow, and make money. 

If you had told me a year ago that I would be helping put together a socially distanced tour for Jill Andrews, that effectively brings live music to fans in a safe way during a pandemic, I would have been scratching my head, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences about this internship. Never knowing what I’m going to be doing next, and then jumping into a new situation where I have to learn as I go has been a great growing experience for me, and I look forward to it every day. 

While I love having tasks thrown my way, and learning new things, one of my favorite parts of my day as an Intern is taking time to work on my semester-long projects. At the beginning of the semester, I chose to take on two semester long projects: writing the monthly Olivia Management newsletter and acting Wikipedia Master. Learning how to draft a newsletter in Mailchimp has been a very insightful experience and one that has really helped me learn about email marketing and writing in general. The Wikipedia Master task has been challenging, but I think a good challenge is important. I had no idea before this internship that creating a Wikipedia page was such an intricate process, but I have learned a lot in the process. 

It’s difficult to explain what a day in the life of an Intern is like at Olivia Management because a typical day is not typical compared to another job or internship. There is always something new and exciting happening, but one thing that stays constant is the positive and encouraging attitude of the team. Everybody works hard day in and day out and is committed to doing their very best work to promote the beautiful music that our artists make!

What does an artist manager’s intern do?

I feel like even my friends that are in the music industry are still curious about what an artist manager does, and what I am doing for them. Here’s a look into my week, what I do in my position, what I believe is important, and what I’ve been learning.

For background, I will explain the purpose of an artist manager. An artist manager is the person behind the artist that helps manage their fast-moving career. They professionally represent and advise an artist to make the smartest business decisions. Artist managers work to get their artists to stand out enough to attract labels, music supervisors, playlisters, and others in all sectors of the music industry. They negotiate contracts, set up tours, make marketing plans, promote them, give budgets, and overall help develop the artist. Find more information here.

So if you think that’s cool, or maybe something you’d want to do, many artist management companies, like Olivia Management, have internships available to teach you just that. But what does that mean you’d be doing? 

First, before you even land an internship, make sure you are bringing your class knowledge with you. Pay attention in your major classes because it matters more than you think. I use this knowledge almost every day in this internship. I have Belmont’s Music Business program to thank for helping me get prepared for this one!

Now you are prepared professionally and start to look for an artist management internship. What does that mean day-to-day? Like I said previously, this is a fast-paced career. Every day there are different deals to be made and different things to discover in the ever-changing music industry. New ideas come up, new people reach out, new songs are written, all just depending on how people are feeling. This is a pretty unpredictable day-to-day job. But that’s also what makes it so much fun.

Because of the unpredictability, there are sometimes gaps. You never really know what you’ll be working on that day until you step into the office. Sometimes it's a crazy busy day where you can barely get time to eat. Olivia Management specifically gives interns “semester-long projects” of their choosing to discover more about the music business. My semester-long projects are diving into artists’ Youtube and working on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for the company, both things I’m interested in. Others are working on merchandising, social media, press releases, sponsorships, etc. It really depends on what interests you!

Most days, I am not working on my semester projects. Instead, on various projects and tasks that come up and the team needs help with. I could help route a tour, make a calendar, edit a music video, edit show posters, make social media posts, do some research for someone on the team, organize something physically, or in a database. There are lots of opportunities. Recently, those are a few of the things that I’ve been up to. 

Arguably, more importantly, is the stuff that will advance my interpersonal skills from this internship. I know what an office environment in my field looks like. I’m watching my co-workers find their work/life balance. I observe what meetings with professionals are like and how to act. These are all invaluable skills that can be learned from any internship. They are the reason that internships are so important before graduation. 

For all of these reasons, I am so grateful for Olivia Management. I’ve learned so much already and will continue to. If you’re a student aspiring to be in the music industry, this is the place for you!

Summer Intern Introduction: Chelsea

It’s been a blast and a half remotely getting to know James and Chelsea. I get the honor of now introducing you to Chelsea. She’s an intelligent, loyal, and hardworking addition to the team. Stoked she’s part of the team! Hoping you get as much out of this interview as we did!

Chelsea Hallman

What do you want to get out of this internship?

I want to gain all and any knowledge that will further help me in this industry. I want to acquire connections and build relationships that are meaningful.

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities? 

I love to go to local shows and discover new artists. This is something I’m missing most during the pandemic. I love fashion and makeup. I have a bad shopping addiction. I love to be with my friends but also value self-care. I’m working on taking more time for myself. 

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

I would eat chicken piccata from the Cheesecake Factory for the rest of my life. If anyone wants to take me there, at any point you know what it do. 

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

I love Lorde. I love her writing style and the way she revolutionized the industry through unique sounds that are still appealing to the general public. I think she is a trend setter. I love Harry Styles and Billie Eillish for similar reasons. As a classic I love The Beatles and to jam out to Micheal Jackson’s hits. I think a lot of my fellow peers are outstanding such as Clare Ernst, Chloe Hogan, Cole Ritter, Analise Malick, Luke Prost, bstrok, etc.

Why did you choose to intern here? 

I chose to intern with Olivia Management because I see opportunities across the industry that are very accessible because of how tight knit the group is. I like the sense of community the company has. It feels home-y. 

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

The local bands. I love music being everywhere. I love the culture of the people. The fact that everyone loves music so much and supports the art of music is what keeps me here.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I don't know. I want to be where God places me. As long as I am personally content with my line of work and making enough money to live comfortably, I think I’ll be happy. 

Intern Wrap Up: An Inside Perspective–Intern Style

Olivia Management = A Hidden Gem

To say that my time here with Olivia Management has been fruitful would be a terribly blatant understatement. The sheer volume of knowledge, experience, and love coursing through the veins of this office is almost too much to put into words but I will surely do my best to paint a picture of what this semester has been like and some wisdom I have gained through my experience. I’m so very fortunate to have had this opportunity, and I am even more blessed to be able to continue working alongside these wonderful women and welcome some new summer interns here in the near future!

-A Few Tidbits I’ve Grabbed Along the Way-

ASK

I like many others, have a natural-born curiosity for all things that I see, hear, read, etc. Although I’ve always felt that I have been vocal about my interests in most situations, I will never take for granted the atmosphere that Erin and the rest of the team have cultivated here. Along with being incredibly kind and open, each of them has been consistently available to answer any question you could possibly have. From semester one-on-one’s to just casual conversation, the relationships that I feel like I have built with these ladies are ones that I will cherish forever and I am confident that the knowledge I have gathered from them will continue to help me in my career moving forward. I advise you to take full advantage of any opportunity in any facet of life that you can to simply just ask questions.

Go All In

Wherever you’ve interned before, or wherever you plan to in the future; no matter how daunting or simple the task, put everything you have into it. It will pay off. Through a few large projects that I have had the pleasure of tackling I’ve learned that if you take your time and go above and beyond what you think is sufficient, the payoff is so much sweeter and wholly more rewarding. Do more than what is expected of you. Go all in. All the time.

Play to Your Strengths AND Your Weaknesses

As an intern, you should not only help everyone out by capitalizing on your strengths, but also be clear about what you struggle with and what you would like to get better at. As someone who fears failure like no other, this is a struggle for me. As you continue to develop work relationships and grow more comfortable with those that you work with, be clear about what you need help on. No one will ever get mad about you simply asking for help. On the contrary, if you don’t know what on earth you’re doing and you mess up really badly, that is absolutely no bueno my friend.

Roll With the Punches

Nothing ever goes exactly to plan. We’ve all seen this in 2020 so far.

And so what? That’s Life.

Choosing to continue working through our current situation was the best decision I’ve made by far. Surely this group could handle their own and more without a few interns. It’s the apparent effort made by you to the people that you don’t necessarily owe anything to that sets you apart. Instead of finishing my semester solely focusing on school, I, along with our other two lovely interns Jackie & Emma locked arms and continued simply because we love what we do and who we work with. I’m a big proponent of “getting what you give,” if you will, and I would give my left arm for this company for how impactful they have been on me and my college career. I’ve had a handful of personal things happen in my life this semester, as they do, and what has kept me grounded and moving forward is the internal obligation that I feel like I have for everyone that works here to hold up my end. I will always thank them for that.

Enjoy it

Being an intern is fun, so enjoy it! Especially when you’ve got the backbone that they do here at OM. Don’t get too caught up in your own world, and just enjoy yourself and the experiences that you get to create as an intern.

Spring Intern Introduction

Just last week, we had the honor and privilege of welcoming three new interns to the team here at Olivia Management! Jackie Minton

Why did you choose to intern at Olivia Management? 

I met Olivia Management at an artist panel I went to over a year ago and was so stuck by their community focused approach to artist management, I applied to intern here as soon as I could! I am so thankful for this opportunity to learn how they do their work from the inside out.

What do you want to get out of this internship?

I hope to learn how to work on a variety of tasks, while also learning how to dream about the future. I want to improve my skills in seeing things to their end, while also working with a team.

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

Oh, definitely the community. I also love all the variety of restaurants and coffee shops, but they are all a fruit of this city’s focus on encountering each other. When I moved here, I was amazed by the willingness of others to listen and share authentically about their experiences.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

As a songwriter, I enjoy most anything with a poetic lyric and melodic sensibility.  Some of my favorite artists include James Taylor, Ingrid Michaelson, Taylor Swift, Leif Vollebekk and Josh Garrels. If there is a guitar picking part or a cello, I’m sold.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would probably be almonds. I’m pretty sure I’m already halfway there.

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities? 

I enjoy eating dark chocolate, drinking hot tea, and reading philosophy. I would minor in all three, but sadly I only study the latter. I also do calligraphy on the side for fun!

Emma Martin

Why did you choose to intern at Olivia Management?

I chose to intern at Olivia Management because I saw how passionate the company was in helping artists grow as much as possible both artistically and as people.

What do you want to get out of this internship?

During this internship I hope to gain more knowledge about touring and what kind of planning goes into sending artists on tour. I also am really interested in learning about the prep work right before album releases. In the future, I hope to work in the creative part of publishing or management.

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

My favorite part about Nashville is how you can walk into almost any restaurant or coffee shop and hear live music. I also love the sense of community that Nashville has even though it’s such a big city.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music!

Some artists and songwriters that I have been into lately are Emily Weisband, Madison Kozak, The Band CAMINO, Lizzo, Kelsea Ballerini and Dan + Shay. I love all different genres of music but my top genres are singer/songwriter and country.  

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would probably be pasta!

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities? 

I love to go hiking and camping! I also love listening to music and playing card/board games with my family and friends.

Why did you choose to intern here?

Any internship opportunity is an opportunity worth taking in my opinion. When you are unable to find anything negative about past internship experiences and the reputation of a company you’re interested in, is in my opinion when you’ve hit the gold mine.

I chose to intern at Olivia Management because of the strong community that they promote and the clear message that when you’re devoting your time to their efforts, they’re devoting the same time right back to your experience. Since starting school at Belmont, I’ve had big hopes to find an internship that cares for their interns and cultivates the right atmosphere for growth. To me it just felt like Olivia management is doing exactly that.

What do you want to get out of this internship?

In a general statement, as humans we are all students, all the time. The whole goal of an internship is to learn right? With this being my first internship, I am excited to have the opportunity to work in an atmosphere with such hard-working individuals and a team aspect that promotes a strong sense of community. I am eager to learn, become proficient in this facet of our industry, and create the relationships that will help me succeed and confidently move forward with my career.

What is your favorite part about Nashville?

Aside from the music, The food options….. Wow. So much good food, so many cool little nooks and crannies in the city, and so many great genuine people that come out of the area. I’m blessed to have the opportunity to live and attend school here.

Favorite musicians, artists, genres, equipment, shows you’ve been to...tell us anything you love about music.

I’m a listener of almost all genres. A few of my favorite current artists include Allen Stone, Tom Misch, Theo Katzman, Joey Landreth, Chris Stapleton, Lawrence, Jordan Rakei, Marcus King Band, Stephen Day, The Dip, etc (I could go on forever). My all time favorite artists/musicians/bands include The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, John Mayer, Dave Matthews, The Beatles, Jack Johnson, and The Allman Brothers

I love everything about music, but what sticks out to me the most is the raw expression that the medium represents. Any single piece of music can tell you more stories about the person who wrote it than you can think up. I think that in the vast creative world that the music industry embodies, its infinity is the most fun part. Whether you’re listening or creating, the passion behind every piece of music tells a story that no other medium could. 

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Logical answer: Chicken - there are a million ways to prepare chicken and it never gets old. That's smart, right? The ~Just what i'm craving in this moment~ answer: Five Guys Fries

What do you love to do? Hobbies? Activities?

I love to sing! I am currently the Vice-President of a collegiate A Cappella group at Belmont University called The Beltones. When I’m not knee-deep in school work, singing my heart out with my friends, or working my other jobs, you can find me:

1. Stopping traffic to pull over and pet a dog

2. Playing far-too-competitive games of racquetball on Tuesdays

3. Browsing the internet for things that I would buy if I had the money to blow

Juggling an Internship, Work and School

At times it seems like your college classes can be too much, but how do you handle going to school, working and taking on an internship? The best piece of advice I can give someone, is to work on your time management skills. If you’re not able to manage your time wisely, you can quickly get overwhelmed, over-worked and begin to miss important deadlines. There are a few things that I do to keep things in order and hopefully they will help you do the same:

First, I always start out by writing down my priorities and putting them in order. Say you have a class starting at 8am, then your internship from 10am-4pm and your shift at work starts at 5pm. Map out every single day and write it down so you have a visual aid. Once you have that mapped out, then break down each responsibility for each activity. For example, you have 2 assignments due on Monday for that 8am class. Then your internship is asking that you have a blog post written so you can post it as soon as you get in. Lastly, your shift manager needs you to have the budget report completed by the end of the week. If you write down everything that is needed for each activity and start to prioritize, then you’ll be able to manage your time correctly and make sure you hit all your deadlines.

Separating things out and prioritizing them like this will help you plan out your week and will give you a little more free time than if you did it on the fly and realize at 10:30pm on a Sunday that you haven’t started a single one of the assignments for the next day. It’s important to include giving yourself a little time to just relax. Don’t over-book or over-commit to things and burn yourself out. Your mental health should always come first. If you start feeling over-worked and you notice that things are starting to slip through the cracks, start asking for help. Maybe one of your classmates can help you study for that exam, or one of your co-workers can step in and assist with a project. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help. Sometimes even having someone pick up dinner for you can make a all the difference.

Of course everyone is different and the way I do things may not work for you, and that’s ok! Go and shuffle that playlist of your favorite Olivia Management artists to listen to while you set calendar reminders for yourself, leave sticky notes on your mirror, or make a calendar and hang it on your wall. Just be sure to find a process that works best for you and stick to it!
