BOOK CLUB!
Our book for October is Alchemy by Rory Sutherland. Grab it from the links below (or your local library or used book store!), and get to reading. I cannot wait to talk about this one with you.
Book Club Meeting: October 22nd at 5pm central time
LINKS:
“Why is Red Bull so popular, though everyone—everyone!—hates the taste? Humans are, in a word, irrational, basing decisions as much on subtle external signals (that little blue can) as on objective qualities (flavor, price, quality). The surrounding world, meanwhile, is irreducibly complex and random. This means future success can’t be projected on any accounting spreadsheet. To strike gold, you must master the dark art and curious science of conjuring irresistible ideas: alchemy.
Based on thirty years of field work inside the largest experiment in human behavior ever conceived—the forever-unfolding pageant of consumer capitalism—Alchemy, the revolutionary book byOgilvy advertising legend Rory Sutherland, whose TED talks have been viewed nearly seven million times, decodes human behavior, blending leading-edge scientific research, absurdly entertaining storytelling, deep psychological insight, and practical case studies from his storied career working on campaigns for AmEx, Microsoft, and others.
Heralded as “one of the leading minds in the world of branding” by NPR and "the don of modern advertising" by The Times, Sutherland is a unique thought leader, as comfortable exchanging ideas with Nobel Prize winners Daniel Kahneman and Richard Thaler (both interviewed in these pages) as he is crafting the next product launch. His unconventional and relentlessly curious approach has led him to discover that the most compelling secrets to human decision-making can be found in surprising places:
What can honey bees teach us about creating a sustainable business?
How could budget airlines show us how to market a healthcare system?
Why is it better to be vaguely right than precisely wrong?
What might soccer penalty kicks teach us about the dangers of risk-aversion?
Better “branding,” Sutherland reveals, can also be employed not just to sell products, but to promote a variety of social aims, like getting people to pay taxes, improving public health outcomes, or encouraging more women to pursue careers in tech.
Equally startling and profound, Sutherland’s journey through the strange world of decision making is filled with astonishing lessons for all aspects of life and business.”
THINGS YOU SHOULD Look INTO:
TIKTOK:
– Artist Account Certification
TikTok has launched self certification of Artist Accounts in 18 territories. Artist Certification allows musicians to easily identify themselves on TikTok and access special promotional features and tools such as the Music Tab, “By Artist”, “New Release” & “Artist” tags and more.
Activation Instructions: Artists can become certified directly in the TikTok app from their mobile device by following this link. Please note that this process will not work on desktop. The approval process takes approximately 7-10 days.
What is the Music Tab?
The TikTok Music Tab is marked by the music symbol and showcases all of an artist's official TikTok sounds. Once activated, it automatically populates an artist’s delivered music. Artists must be certified and have delivered three tracks to TikTok via the supply chain to be eligible for this feature. Artists must be certified to access the Music Tab. Artists can pin their latest releases to the top of the tab.
What is “By Artist”?
Artists can pin their own videos or a video of their choice in the first/second slot on the music detail page using the ‘By Artist’ feature.
What are New Release and Artist Tags?
The ‘Artist’ tag is unique and designed to ensure musicians are easily identified to users and potential new fans on the platform. It is automatically applied to a profile when ‘Artist Account’ status is active i.e, the artist is certified, has the Music Tab enabled and has delivered 3 or more tracks to TikTok via the supply chain.
The New Release tag is a feature to highlight and promote artists’ new music via a ‘New’ tag on videos that contain their most recent release. The ‘New’ tag will also appear in the music detail page of the artists’ latest release as well as their other releases.

Pandora wants to remind everybody about AMP, our Artist Marketing Platform, a set of free and powerful tools for creators. Whether you’re an experienced AMP user or have been meaning to get around to signing up and learning to use AMP eventually, AMP can be an extremely valuable part of any creator’s toolkit.
Once you’re signed up for AMP, you can:

• Let your fans know about what you have for sale and how to buy your merch
• Hype new recordings and releases
• Announce upcoming performances
• Speak to the context or meaning of your music, share behind the scenes stories and musical influences
• ‘Feature’ your latest new single and accompany it with an artist message.
• Get set up to record voice-overs and add them to playlists (we call these Pandora Stories) for a playlist/podcast vibe.
• View detailed data about each and every track you have spinning on Pandora

Consulting Policies:
CANCELING CONSULTING: All consulting is offered on a month-to-month basis. If you’d like to cancel or change your consulting, please provide 30 days' notice before the start of the month. If you do not provide 30 days' notice you will still be invoiced for the following month. (To avoid confusion- tell me on December 1st if we are not moving forward in January)
PAYMENT: You will be invoiced at the beginning of each month. Payment is expected in full at the beginning of each month. You can pay your invoice via Venmo, Zelle, or check! Reminder: If you are not moving forward with consulting, you must let me know at the beginning of the previous month (for example, tell me on December 1st if you are not continuing in January). Venmo: @erin-anderson-7, Zelle erin@oliviamanagement.com. If you are international and you need another option, please reach out.
MEETINGS: One-on-one meetings are booked on a first-come, first-served basis through Erin's meeting reservation system (http://erinolivia.youcanbook.me). You are responsible for booking your meetings in advance every month, and you may book your meetings up to 10 weeks in advance. If you ever have an emergency, Erin will make every effort to accommodate adding a meeting for you, but for monthly ongoing meetings make sure to book a few weeks out in advance to secure a time that works best for you! Reminder, I sometimes do consulting meetings back to back and need a short break to grab coffee or water in between- that is why our contracted time is 50 minutes!
RESCHEDULING MEETINGS: Please make every attempt to cancel at least 24 hours in advance. You can reschedule your meeting by clicking the link in your meeting confirmation email. If it is within 24 hours, please email or text Erin directly. If you do not cancel your meeting before the meeting time, you will be charged for it.
COMMUNICATION: If you have a time sensitive need outside of our consulting, reach out via email and Erin will do her best within to reason to help you solve your problem. Some questions might require a longer conversation in our next meeting instead of being a quick email answer. Do not text or call outside of business hours except for a true emergency (e.g.- your opening slot on a tour is canceled because the headliner is sick in the middle of the tour).
